The covers will tear us apart.

I don't know if this will stop anyone in the future but at least they have been warned...15 or so 'love will tear us apart' covers all jammed into 60 seconds.

WFMU has been CC'ed.

That is absolutely amazing!

We should do this with more songs, all of the standard covers for people of our age and taste. How many covers of Jesus and Mary Chain's "Head On" are out there, or REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Lovin' You"...

60 seconds is a perfect time to jam those together and get a sense of the wide range of options, ideas and skills out there.

Now that I think about it, there have to be a million covers of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" out there. Off the top of my head there is the Built To Spill 20 min version, and Slint's clean and accurate live version. There must be more....

true....I was reading a johnny cash bio and I thought it would be funny to take twom words like 'walk' and 'line' and just isolate them over and over on top of the opening guitar...with the horns...yea this piece really inspired me to keep going somewhere along these lines. I think mostly this came out of a list I saw soemwhere that had rules for indie rock bands...this was #2 'Do a cover of 'love will tear us apart.'

On npr or wnyc a few weeks ago, they talked to a guy who used an algorithm to average the tones of each song off the billboard chart's #1 hits of the week. Then using those average tones, compiled a "song." For each week that the song was at the #1 spot on the chart, it's corresponding tone is played for a second. (4 weeks at #1 = 4 sec of the average tone played) The "song" spans years of billboard hits.
