Football picks - 12/21/07

So, here is what I did:

I took the book I am currently reading, The Battles for Spotsylvania Courthouse and the Road to the Yellow Tavern by Gordon Rhea and started with the page where my bookmark is (p. 71). Beginning with the first full paragraph, I marked each NEW person mentioned. If they were from the Federals, I marked column A, if they were Confederates I chose from B.

Here are the results:

A - Genl Wainright
A - Genl Buell
A - Genl Warren
A - Genl Hancock
A - Genl Sedgewick
A - Genl Meade
B - Genl Anderson
B - Genl Ewell
A - Maj Hyde
A - Gel Wright
A - Genl Davies
B - Genl Kershaw
A - Col Lyman
A - Lt.Genl Grant

Football instructions, week whatever

Here are the new instructions for picking football teams for next week (go Pats!) --

I know you have a drawer full of take-out menus. To pick teams, remove the menus from the drawer in order, and look at the phone number of the restaurant. If the last digit is odd, pick the team from the A column, if it is even then choose B. Do this until you have selected all teams. Post all documentation here.

Using itunes, playing on random, the next song that comes up look at the 'Play count' column. If the song that plays next has been played less than 20 times, pick the team from the 'A' column. If it has been played more than 20 times than pick team 'B'.

Post the results.

It's weird to see still frames of the tv, it takes me back to some of our early work. It's like they were never meant to be seen like that. Or it's too easy for them to look really funny?

Newer instructions for football

Matt,
That sounds great for next week, because my friend has offered his 4 year old daughter to pick teams this week. He's sure she knows what she is doing and I just had to give her a chance...so it's out of our hands this week, and I can't wait to see the footage.

Football picks - new instructions

In order to pick our teams for next week, here are your instructions:

Go to your bookshelf, and pick the first book you find by Shakespeare, Nabakov, Murakami or Tolstoy. If you don't have any books by these guys, choose a book by a similarly prestigious author.

Flip to a random page.

Starting with the first complete sentence on the page, note every letter "A" and "B" that you encounter, in order. Continue until you have enough "A" and "B" notes to select all games.

Document everything and post here.

Week 3 NFL betting picks

Matt,
I'm just about to get our results this morning and I'm starting to feel a little bad about doing pretty good. We got 10 right I think this week. After tonights games we'll know more. I think there are going to be some pissed people, and I have nothing to say about our picks, I think that might be the most upsetting part, that we're openly saying we don't give a shit. I was willing to just give them our money, but not take it.
Oh well.

Betting Methodology Pt1

Here at Harvey Loves Harvey we strongly believe in leaving nothing up to chance.
We have a theory for betting that is based on the all or nothing rule. Why bother with playing it safe? You might break even, but you just wasted a weekend. In the sake of time and energy the most efficient betting method is not complete chance, but creating a set of rules to choose the winners with the least prior knowledge as possible. This is known as the 'Harvey Rule'
For an office football pool at work, we will attempt to prove this rule by betting on every game played in the 2007 season, not by chance, but by eliminating any kind of thought process, or personal feelings you have for the teams involved. Therefore either coming in dead last or winning the whole damn pot.

For the second week, each game's team was given a letter A or B respectively, Matt would choose the team as quickly as possible based on the particular leaning he had towards one letter or another.

Listen to the audio.

Matt will come up with a similar game for week 3. I'm ready to pick em.
